When I don’t have time to travel somewhere new, I like to slip my boots on and explore our acreage. Sometimes I go out with a mission; I know exactly what I want to shoot and while I may veer off course a bit, I still reach my goal. Other times, I wander until something catches my eye. When this is the case, I’m always surprised by what I notice that hasn’t caught my eye before.
On this stroll it was a rusty stretch of barbed wire tangled, then wrapped over a fence post; some rusty chain links draped over an equally rusty gate; a rusty nail poking out of a weathered barn board; a rusty ladder on the side of a grain bin; and a rusted water hydrant made right here in Iowa.
Sometimes the simple things that we see them every day get overlooked but turn out to be hidden treasures for a photographer!
